Team Development

We have just completed an Introduction to Competition Law training for our team in the office and on Microsoft Teams.

This part of our on-going capability development as we grow to assist petroleum industry leaders with strategic and complex projects. Whilst we believe we have been on the right side of the law in the general sense, we do recognise the need for us to build capacity with complementary areas of the law to our principal focus area: the petroleum and energy sector.

What was special with this training is that it was passionately delivered by Songezo Mabece who is Legal Counsel - Mergers and Acquisitions at the Competition Commission of South Africa.

Songezo Mabece is an accomplished lawyer, guest lecturer, public speaker, radio-show host (SA FM - The View Point) and a humanitarian. He holds a Master of Laws (LLM) degree in International Trade Law from Stellenbosch University, has completed an executive development course from the IEDC Bled School of Management in Slovenia, a certificate in competition law from the University of Cape Town, and a Master of Laws (LLM) in Government procurement law from the George Washington University in the USA.

His concluding message was competition law is not an obstacle to the performance of Outflow Petroleum Insights. We need to promote a culture of compliance with the Competition Act and be aware of potential conduct that could contravene the Competition Act. Most importantly, all industry players should approach the Commission when uncertain.

We are grateful for this exchange and are well placed to contribute more to our industry.
